Coating Fabrics

Coating wools are fabrics commonly used for men's and women's coats and have been used by many in fiber arts for braiding, hooking, wool applique, and doll making.

These fabrics come in many forms and finishes and are generally 14 to 24 ounces per linear yard.

Plush and fleece coatings are napped on one side. A fleece coating has a directional nap that feels smooth to the touch one way and rough the other like an animals fur. On a plush fabric the nap is tucked under so that it feels the same both ways. Many blankets are napped this way. A melton cloth is densely woven with a very flat finish.
